Charlamagne Urges Kanye West To Check His Facts In Leaked Text Message

Charlamagne Tha God Kanye West

It's time Yeezy got a fact-checker. Amidst the controversy around his support of Trump, Kanye West has shared a text conversation with his 27.9 million Twitter followers between himself and The Breakfast Club's Charlamagne Tha God. In the leaked message, the Power 105.1 radio host urged West to check his facts after the Life of Pablo rapper tweeted out a text message conversation regarding the Republican party's role and relationship with black people during the Civil War. In the text, a person named "Steve" told West, "Abe Lincoln freed and protected the slaves and he was Republican. Republicans were the ones who helped black people. Democrats protected the rights of the slave owners in the South." After telling "Steve" he was going to tweet the message, the person responded, "those are facts."

A half an hour later, West shared another series of text messages with John Legend and Charlamagne Tha God. "Whoever sent you this is leading you wrong by giving you half truths because the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was put into legislation by a Democratic President," Charlamagne told the rapper. "So to say Republicans helped black people but imply(ing) Democrats never have is stupid."

"You gotta fact check this stuff before you put it in the world. Your platform too big," he concluded.

John Legend, who has openly criticized West for his support of Republicans, said, "Abraham Lincoln was indeed a Republican. They love bringing that up to deflect from the fact that now the Republicans have become the party of the Confederacy. They defend the Confederate flag and oppose civil rights advances almost uniformly."

After giving West a history lesson, Legend continued, "I know you don't read a lot about politics or political history and the person whose text you just posted probably knows that too. That's why they told you to post that silly tweet about the old Republican and Democratic parties. What they fail to mention is that the party of Lincoln has transformed into the party of the Confederacy. You can tweet this too!"

"Not trying to manipulate your free thought. Trying to inform it!"
