Everyone inside a Starbucks is to be considered a customer whether or not they purchase anything.
That was the message delivered in a memo to employees over the weekend as the coffee giant continues to respond to last month's incident in Philadelphia when an employee called the police on two African-American men who were sitting and waiting for someone to arrive. The company's official policy reads, "any person who enters our spaces, including patios, cafes and restrooms, regardless of whether they make a purchase, is considered a customer."
The letter adds that if employees perceive an imminent danger or safety concern, they are still urged to call 911. Starbucks will close all of its U.S. locations on the afternoon of May 29th for employees to receive anti-bias training. (USA Today)
